In 2023, the Bagdasar-Arseni Emergency Hospital in Bucharest benefited from an extensive modernization project of the Leksell Gamma Knife Icon equipment, used in non-invasive radiosurgical treatments.
The project included replacing radioactive sources of cobalt 60 and Technology upgrade to Esprit.
This modernization ensures a higher standard of precision and safety, strengthening the position of the Center of Excellence in Neurosurgery as leader in stereotactic neurosurgery in Romania.
1. Project objective
The project consisted in providing preventive and operational maintenance services, including spare parts, for the Leksell Gamma Knife Icon equipment, while upgrading the Esprit model to improve the performance and efficiency of the treatments.
2. Challenges and solutions implemented
The project involved a major challenge: replacing radioactive sources of cobalt-60a complex process that requires specialists in radiological safety and handling radioactive materials.
Transportation was carried out under special convoy with gendarmerie escortunder strict safety conditions. The implementation was based on: rigorous planning, coordination between teams and advanced technical expertise, ensuring a safe process without affecting medical work.
